If you are anything like us, you enjoy the occasional trip with your family. After all, it’s fun going on weekend trips to unwind, but you dread the “I am bored” or the “Are we there yet” comments from your kids. If you know, you know! And if you haven’t experienced that, well, you should consider yourself lucky. But anyway, if that is you, I have an easy activity kids of all ages can do to pass the time. In this post, you will find a road trip scavenger hunt for kids that will keep them entertained for some time.
This scavenger hunt makes for a great road trip game because there is really no prep work that needs to be done. Not only that, but younger and older kids will enjoy doing this.
It’s the perfect way to make your next road trip more enjoyable and keep everyone busy while on the way to your next vacation. Young children and older family members alike will have so much fun looking for different items on the list.
What is a Scavenger Hunt
A scavenger hunt is a game in which you look for objects from a list. The items can be hidden or scattered in a particular area, like a park or a house. In this case, they will be found while you are on your next trip.
A scavenger hunt can be done by yourself or in teams. You get a list of things and try to find everything on it. These things can be something simple, such as train tracks, a gas station, or police cars. The first one to finish or find the most wins. It’s a great way to have fun with friends and family members on a long trip.
What Makes a Road Trip Scavenger Hunt a Good Activity
Let’s face it: car rides, especially a long car ride, can be challenging with children. Having some easy and fun activities can help make family road trips more manageable.
A road trip scavenger hunt is an great activity because it keeps the kids busy and having fun during the drive. So, none of the “I am bored” comments. Any time you can have some peace and quiet while traveling with kids is a plus!
This activity gets the kids to look out the window and spot cool things along the way. Everyone can join in, and if you have younger and older kids, they can both do this. So it’s great for kids of all ages and even for adults.
Plus, it gets everyone working together and competing in a fun way, making the trip more enjoyable.
A road trip scavenger hunt is also an excellent activity that keeps the kids off electronic devices. I don’t know about you, but that’s always a plus for us!
After all, whenever we go on a road trip, it’s usually to have some family time together, not just to be on our phones or iPads.

You can also laminate these yourself at home if you have a laminating machine available. The best part of doing that is that you can reuse this printable multiple times, saving you money.
If that is the case, make sure to have some dry-erase makers.

Road Trip Scavenger Hunt for Kids
I have made three different scavenger hunt printables for the long drive, two of which are more suitable for younger kids. Those two have images, making it easier for young kids to know what to look for. The road trip scavenger hunt list includes road signs, cars, and animals, just to name a few. All of these are great for younger children.
For the older kids, I have a list of items that are more challenging to get right away, such as finding two people on a motorcycle or finding an old tire on the side of the road. This way, they won’t finish the scavenger hunt so quickly.
If this is a long car trip, you can have the kids do all three of them to help pass the time. Younger kids might need help with some of these, and if that is the case, having siblings help out would be a good idea. If not, have them skip that.
Let’s get to the fun stuff, shall we?
As a reminder, this is for personal use only.
You can get the printable scavenger hunt for all three by clicking the link down below. Print as many as you would like for the long road trip, and let the family vacation begin! If you absolutely love this for your own children share this fun road trip scavenger hunt with others.
