“I’m bored.” I’m sure we’ve all heard that from our children at some point. The oh-so-dreaded remark. It seems like no matter what we have going on in the day there is always some mention of it. Here I’ll be sharing activities to do at home with your children.
There will be those days when staying at home will be unavoidable. I get it. We’ve all been there.
Maybe one kid is sick, or maybe you had to keep a child home because they have a doctor’s appointment later, etc.
It’s not fun being cooped up inside. Time drags quite a bit when you’re home with your children, so to help pass the time I have come up with a few ideas you can do at home with your children.
You can do these things for free or likely have some lying around the house.
Outdoor Activities
Play Frisbee. If you don’t own a aerobie flying disc do yourself a favor and get it. This frisbee isn’t like the rest. This one doesn’t hurt like the old-fashioned plastic ones.
Go for a bike ride with the family. This is a fun one to do and the time flys by.
Play with bubbles. If you have a bubble machine even better. You can both make it more fun by making it competitive. The one who bursts more bubbles wins.
Draw with chalk. Do some fun drawings on the driveway. Or if you have a little one learning how to write have them trace the ABCs over with a different color chalk.
Freeze small toys in a bowl with water. Then smash it when it’s done to get them out. It’s free and easy to do and your child will have fun getting the toys out of there.
Paint on a canvas. Take your art supplies and start painting. If don’t have any canvases use a blank piece of paper. You don’t have to worry about the house getting dirty since you’re doing it outside.
Play hopscotch. I mean why the heck not? This is a fun childhood game I am sure your child will like.
Play with water balloons. When summer comes around this is our go-to thing to do. We love bunch o ballons. We spend a good amount of time simply playing this.
Paint with water. All you need for this is a paintbrush or anything at that and some water. It’s that simple.
Go stomp on puddles after a storm. What’s more fun than that?
Indoor Activities
Play a card game. We love UNO and playing with Pokemon cards.
Play hide and seek.
Make a fort. Make sure to grab your blankets, a couple of chairs, and lots of pillows.
Start a puzzle. Depending on how old your children are reach for a 100-piece or 300-piece puzzle.
Dance to Kidz Bop songs. You can dance to all the catchy songs without having to worry about the lyrics.
Play board games. Grab your favorite board game with so many options to choose from you’re bound to find a few that will keep you preoccupied.
Play “I Spy”. You can do this anywhere and for free. What’s not to love about it?
Play “The Floor is Lava.” This one will keep your child busy!
Have a movie night with popcorn and all. Don’t forget the treats as well. Have them pick the movie. With all these streaming services you’re bound to find something you all like.
Facetime relatives that don’t live close. This is a fun way to reconnect with family that don’t live close by. Your child will spend a good amount of time talking with them.
Build something new with existing Legos. We love the Brikit app for just that. You are able to scan the legos you have and it shows you ideas to build with what you have on hand.
Make an obstacle course. Use what you have at home to encourage them to use their imagination.
Play Truth or Dare.
Play Simon Says. What a classic kids’ game.
Read a book. Right now we’re loving the National Geographic Werid but True books.
Play with the Find the Hidden Object books. Your children will love these books. We spend a good amount of time finding the hidden objects and get competitive with each other.
Final Thoughts
What others activities do you do with your children to pass the time? Share them down below. I would love to know.
Now if you found useful please feel free to share with your friends and while you’re at it go ahead and save this to refer back to.
Until next time, friend.

My kids loved to play hidden object games with me when they were little. I had one kid sitting at my desk on either side of the computer screen, helping me to find those objects. I loved that time with them.
You have listed off plenty of other ideas for keeping kids occupied and busy while at home.

Ah, that’s good to hear.
